Santa Monica Community,

We have been closely monitoring the Rittenhouse trial and our intelligence service has communicated with our regional law enforcement partners about potential protest activities based on the outcome of the trial. I understand some of you may be concerned about the potential for activities in or around Santa Monica. While there is currently no indication that any type of activity is specific to our community, I want everyone to know that we work tirelessly to protect our city. The Santa Monica Police Department works closely with the city’s emergency response center if additional resources are required. Together we are currently taking the necessary steps to ensure we are well prepared because your safety and the protection of our community are our priority.

Starting today and through the weekend, we will be implementing a comprehensive response plan supported by increased numbers of uniformed personnel across the city. We will continue to monitor our sources of information so that we can make the necessary adjustments if necessary. When we learn of actionable information, the information will be shared with you in a timely manner.

I want to remind all of our community members and visitors that we count on you to be our eyes and ears when we are not around. When you see something, say something by calling us at 310-458-8491 or 9-1-1 in a life threatening emergency.

Thank you for your continued support.

Chief Batista
