Fare collection resumed today on Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority buses after being suspended in March 2020 as a COVID-19 precaution.

Fares have been suspended so people can get on the back and front of buses where fares can be picked up. Train fares were never suspended during the pandemic and the survey will continue to be in effect.

To make customization easier, Metro is offering six months at half price and bigger discounts for eligible low-income passengers.
Discounted passes went on sale in December and the following promotional fares will be available through July 2022:

– $ 3.50 for a day pass;
– USD 12.50 for a weekly pass; and
– $ 50 for a 30 day pass.

Passengers who register for a regional transport support program called Low-Income Fare is Easy (LIFE) at https://bit.ly/3x6RYe5 receive 90 days of free rides and can then buy even cheaper LIFE passes:

– $ 26 for a 30-day pass, which is typically $ 76; and
– $ 6.50 for a 7-day pass, which is typically $ 19.50.

Metro officials say the LIFE application process has been streamlined and it only takes minutes to fill out forms with basic information about applicants and other household members.

Applicants can use their phone to take photos of ID cards, upload the pictures, and email the information to Metro. The income can be certified yourself if there is no proof.

Drivers who live in Antelope Valley, Central Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, South Bay, or Westside Cities can email their applications at [email protected]

Drivers who live in the Gateway Cities or San Gabriel Valley can email their applications at [email protected]

Residents can also submit applications to any Los Angeles County Metro Customer Service Center.

Discounted tariffs will be available at Metro TAP machines, taptogo.net and in Metro customer centers.
