Los Angeles County’s unadjusted unemployment rate fell to 7.1% in November, down from 7.8% in October, according to figures released today by the state’s Employment Development Department.
In October 2020, the rate was 11.9% amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Orange County’s unemployment rate was 4.1% in November, compared with 4.7% in October and 6.6% last November.
The nationwide comparable rate was 5.4% in the same period and thus fell short of a national estimate of 3.9%.
As of February 2021, California has created a total of 977,200 non-farm jobs, an average of more than 97,000 jobs per month. October through November added an additional 45,700 jobs, accounting for nearly 22% of the country’s total 210,000 job gain for the month.
Eight of California’s eleven industries created jobs in November, with Professional & Business Services leading the way with 18,800 jobs.
Education and health services also recorded good growth compared to the previous month, thanks to the strength of outpatient health services and educational services, according to EDD.
The construction industry recorded a loss of 1,700 jobs, which the agency attributed to the cutbacks in specialist retail companies.
