LOS ANGELES – Anyone attending “mega-events” of 10,000+ people – such as open air concerts and baseball, soccer, and soccer games – in Los Angeles County must have one under a new COVID-19 health ordinance Wearing face covering will come into effect this week.
The new ordinance, which goes into effect Thursday at 11:59 p.m., requires masks to be worn in such outdoor environments unless people are “actively eating or drinking”. The order applies to everyone, regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status.
Outdoor events were previously exempt from the county mask-wearing mandate, which requires face-covering in all indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status. It is also compulsory to wear a mask in public transport, at transport hubs such as airports and train stations, in schools, in health facilities, shelters for the homeless and prisons.
The updated health ordinance, which was quietly posted on the District Health Department’s website on Monday, applies to all events with more than 10,000 people. The order cites music or food festivals, car shows, long-distance events, marathons, parades, sporting events and concerts as examples.
The mandate covers individuals attending games at Dodger Stadium, as well as Rams / Chargers games at SoFi Stadium, LAFC games at Banc of California Stadium, and LA Galaxy Games at Dignity Health Sports Park. Concertgoers at the Hollywood Bowl are also affected.
