Inland girls’ volleyball teams ready for first CIF-SS playoffs in two years – San Bernardino Sun.

It has been almost 23 months since a domestic girls’ volleyball team participated in an post-season game.

The coronavirus pandemic wiped out most of the spring season for most teams, and the CIF south division was unable to conduct its playoffs due to lengthy delays and coronavirus protocols and restrictions.

The playoffs have returned and 85 area teams will begin their search for a section title in the coming days.

Vista Murrieta and Ontario Christian were the last domestic teams to play a post-season game, as each team won the CIF State Championships in November 2019. Vista Murrieta was the only domestic team selected to compete in the Division 1 elite. The Broncos will have to wait until October 27th to receive Lakewood in the quarterfinals.

Ontario Christian, who won the CIF-SS Division 3 title in 2019, will receive Murrieta Valley, the 2019 Division 2 runner-up, in a Division 2 first round match on Thursday evening. Ontario Christian has done well against Southwestern League teams this season, taking tournament wins against Chaparral and Temecula Valley.

Six domestic teams achieved top 4 placements in their respective playoff divisions: Chino Hills (No. 3 in Division 5), Beaumont (No. 2 in Division 6), Hillcrest (No. 4 in Division 7) Big Bear (No. 4 in. Division 8), United Christian Academy (No. 1 in Division 9), and San Jacinto Valley Academy (No. 4 in Division 9).
