SANTA MONICA, CA – Grammy-winning singer Christina Aguilera will receive her first Music Icon award at next week’s People’s Choice Awards, producers said on Wednesday.
The award will honor Aguilera for her “contributions to the music industry and illustrious career”. Becky G will present the award to Aguilera during the ceremony taking place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on Tuesday.
Aguilera will also perform during the ceremony, “singing a never-before-seen medley of her greatest songs, culminating in the music of her highly anticipated new Spanish-language album.”
“There’s a reason Christina Aguilera is being called ‘the voice of our generation,'” said Jen Neal, executive vice president, NBCUniversal Entertainment Television and Streaming, in a statement. “Not only does she have an extraordinary voice, but as a creator she produces music that evokes true emotions and resonates in so many different demographics. Christina is an idol and we can’t wait to celebrate her success and give her the first Music Icon Award. “
According to the producers of the People’s Choice Awards, in addition to Aguilera’s musical achievements, her work as a global representative of Yum! Brands Welthungerhilfe has helped raise more than $ 150 million for the World Food Program and other organizations.
