LOS ANGELES (CNS) – “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” topped the box office for $ 44 million this weekend, according to industry estimates released on Sunday.
The 1984 sequel to “Ghostbusters” was directed by Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, who directed this former favorite.
“Eternals” was by far second at $ 10.8 million on its third weekend in theaters in the US and Canada, Comscore reported.
“Clifford the Big Red Dog” finished third on the second weekend for $ 8.1 million.
“King Richard”, the story of the tennis-playing Williams sisters and their father with Will Smith, started in fourth place with $ 5.7 million. “King Richard” is also available for the home theater appearance on the streaming service HBO Max.
“Dune” was in fifth place at $ 3 million on its fifth weekend release.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases as estimated by Comscore, “Venom: Let There be Carnage” ($ 2.8 million), “No Time to Die” ($ 2.7 million), “The French Dispatch “($ 970,000),” Belfast “($ 940,000), and” Ron’s Gone Wrong “($ 888,000).
