Woman arrested in deadly altercation in South El Monte – NBC Los Angeles

A woman was arrested late Wednesday after allegedly driving a car into a sheriff’s department vehicle before hitting and killing a man and injuring a deputy.

The woman was involved in an altercation with the man before he died in South El Monte, authorities said. The woman left the scene but was arrested after a pursuit.

Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Temple Station responded at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday in a business mall parking lot at Block 9600 of Garvey Avenue, where they saw a man and woman engaged in an altercation, said Deputy Miguel Meza of the Information Bureau of the sheriff.

As MPs arrested the man, the woman, who is believed to be in her 30s, got into a vehicle, made a U-turn and purposely drove toward the MPs and the man, Meza said.

The woman collided with a squad car, hit a MP and the man believed to be in his 50s, and led the MPs in a chase. At some point during the pursuit, her vehicle broke down and police officers arrested her.

The man whom MPs arrested died at the scene.

The MP, who was beaten by the suspect, was taken to a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.
