Why Buying Beverly Hills Can’t Replace Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles

The world of real estate reality television is growing, with Netflix’s Buying Beverly Hills set to air early next month. While viewers can expect plenty of glamorous property content, the show will also highlight office romances and lavish parties involving the firm’s agents. However, fans of the series that started it all, Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, can’t help but roll their eyes at the idea of another real estate reality series.

MDLLA, who had many scandals, paved the way for the reality TV sub-genre, which has become increasingly popular over the years. It premiered on Bravo in 2006, documenting the professional and personal lives of LA’s top realtors in a very competitive market. The hit series has since spawned into a drama-filled New York spin-off, Million Dollar Listing New York, along with the short-lived San Francisco and Miami shows.

Fans Still Prefer Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles Over Buying Beverly Hills

Buying Beverly Hills is a spin-off of what many fans considered Netflix’s version of MDLLA, Selling Sunset. The show chronicles drama between a group of young realtors working for the same high-end brokerage firm, The Agency, also in Los Angeles. Buying Beverly Hills, which RHOBH fans are boycotting, will follow the same format as Selling Sunset but will instead feature co-workers at The Agency, a firm owned by Mauricio Umansky, husband of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards.

Two of Umansky’s daughters are realtors at The Agency and are part of the main cast members, according to Netflix. Having made regular appearances on RHOBH since Kyle joined the cast during its debut season, it’s no question that viewers have developed an interest in Mauricio, daughters Farrah Aldjufrie and Alexia Umansky, and their family’s multi-million dollar business. That being said, unlike the breakout stars of MDLLA, a few of the main cast members of Buying Beverly Hills are already figures in the reality TV sphere.

Watching the MDLLA cast navigate a cutthroat housing market while making a name for themselves is alluring since viewers were unprepared for what to expect and how the drama would unfold. Buying Beverly Hills, which could stir the pot with Kathy Hilton, follows an already famous cast who knows how to “bring it” in front of the cameras, which is a turn-off to fans who feel like Mauricio is riding the RHOBH fame wave to build his brand. This adds more frustration to what fans are already feeling, including Reddit user Nasus_13, who wrote, “Not interested in seeing nepotism kids.” In other words, it seems Buying Beverly Hills will be a hard sell to MDLLA’s loyal following, who struggled to take an already famous family seriously in the real estate world.

Other fans are looking forward to what they hope is a closer look at the Umansky family’s strong work ethic. Either way, only time will tell what viewers think of Buying Beverly Hillswhich premieres on Netflix on November 4. It will be followed by MDLLA season 14, which Bravo recently confirmed will return on December 8.
