WEST LOS ANGELES, CA — Pet adoption fees will be reduced or waived at dozens of shelters across California this weekend thanks to a partnership between Bounty and the Best Friends Animal Society.
To help dogs and cats find forever homes during National Pet Month, Bounty will donate $50 for every dog adopted and $25 for every cat adopted from May 20 to 22.
NKLA Pet Adoption Center at West LA, 1845 Pontius Ave., Los Angeles, will offer the promotion to increase adoptions this weekend.
About 100,000 more pets are at risk of being killed in shelters this year than last year amid staffing shortages and other issues from the pandemic, according to Best Friends Animal Society.
For every pet that gets adopted this weekend, two animals could be saved: the one that gets a home and another that will have more room to occupy a space at a shelter.
“May is one of the highest intake months for animal shelters in America. The sad truth is that shelters get overcrowded when pets aren’t adopted quickly enough, and this can put lives at risk,” said Julie Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society. “That’s why we’re grateful that Bounty wanted to quickly come to the rescue and pick up or help with adoption fees this month. It’ll help Best Friends and our shelter partners get more pets into homes at this critically needed time.”
The paper towel company will make donations to more than 300 shelters across the nation.
The Best Friends Animal Society offered the following suggested tips to those planning to adopt this weekend.
- Update pet vaccines.
- Test pets for heartworm disease.
- Become informed about flea and tick prevention.
- Make a gradual transition to a new diet when implementing new food.
- Ask about pre-existing medical conditions and request copies of medical records to share with your veterinarian.
- Determine what type of activity level your pet will need.
- Determine whether your new pet will get along with your other pets.
