Los Angeles (CBSLA) – People who wish to devote their time and service on Saturday, the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack and a federally recognized memorial day, can help pack meals for those starving in Los Angeles .
More than 1,000 volunteers from across the Los Angeles community are required to package 200,000 healthy, non-perishable meals that will be donated to and distributed by the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. The Los Angeles Meal Pack takes place on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Los Angeles Convention Center

“We made a lot of payouts, our payouts have increased 115% since before the pandemic,” said Roger Castle of the LA Food Bank. “So there are a lot of people coming to these distributions you see here who have never needed food aid before but are in dire need of food because of the economic impact of the pandemic.”

The Los Angeles Meal Pack is open to those 12 years of age and older who are fully vaccinated and masks are also required.

Volunteers must register to choose from available two-hour shifts and the LA Food Bank will email an online ticket.
