The Kardashian family tradition of keeping ex-partners close apparently continues; records indicate Tristan Thompson has bought a substantial estate that’s practically a 3-pointer shot away from Khloe Kardashian’s newly completed mansion. Set on a 1.39-acre lot in guard-gated Hidden Hills, the big house set the NBA baller back a hefty $12.5 million, though the property has been essentially vacant for much of the past decade.
Newly built in 2010, the East Coast traditional-inspired residence was sold for $9 million that same year to car dealership mogul Howard Keyes, former owner of the Keyes Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai and Honda stores in Van Nuys, Calif.
Keyes, 80, seems to have spent little time at the property. From 2014-2017, the vacant house was for sale at prices that fluctuated between $8.7 million and $10.7 million, though those figures did not entice a buyer. But Hidden Hills home values have skyrocketed over the past few years, and when the mansion was re-listed this year at $13 million, it didn’t take long before Thompson came calling.
A substantial motorcourt with space for 10+ cars fronts the lavish home, which offers six bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms in more than 10,000 square feet. Three short flights of stone stairs lead up to the front door, which opens into an airy double-height foyer defined by its checkerboard black-and-white stone floor and topped by a massive crystal chandelier. Immediately beyond that, the floors switch to brown hardwood in the living room, which connects to a formal dining room and a temperature-controlled wine closet.
There are not one but two islands in the chef’s kitchen, which is kitted out with premium appliances and a butler’s pantry. Via big sliding doors, the adjacent family room spills out to a loggia with ample room for al fresco entertaining. Elsewhere on the main level is also a library, a billiard room with a wet bar, a hexagonal breakfast room, a movie theater and maid’s quarters, plus an attached five-car garage.
Upstairs, the master bedroom flaunts two dedicated sitting areas, plus a private balcony overlooking the estate’s lush grounds. Awash in pricey stone, the dual master baths have a soaking tubs and connect to dual dressing rooms with bespoke finishes.
Laced with rose gardens, mature trees and grassy lawns, the backyard makes for an elegant resort, albeit one deep within LA’s San Fernando Valley. Per the listing, Keyes recently spent a substantial amount of money upgrading and adding to the estate’s numerous outdoor amenities, installing an all-new covered cabana with a fireplace, an all-new BBQ center and all-new sports court with a basketball hoop — perfect for Thompson’s at-home practicing.
If Keyes’ surname sounds vaguely familiar, it’s likely because his ex-wife, Australian-born Margie Keyes, sold her own Hidden Hills mansion earlier this year to Sylvester Stallone.
Thompson, 31, who shares two of his four children with Kardashian, previously played for the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers. The NBA free agent also once owned an Encino compound he bought in 2019 for $6.5 million and sold this past spring for nearly $8 million.
