LICORICE PIZZA is PTA’s most personal film. Hilarious, warm and inevitably divisive. Cooper Hoffman makes a stunning debut and Bradley Cooper eats four, maybe five records on the big screen. Must have been real, they never cut off. I totally loved it

Licorice pizza was brilliant. Hysterical and charming. I can’t say anything bad about it. I absolutely loved it. Alana Haim’s achievement is everything.

Actor John C. Reilly also praised Haim very much and said in a chat with the singer and actress for Interview Magazine: I think you have a movie. ‘
“You know the phrase ‘You can’t take your eyes off her?’ I’ve experienced this feeling before watching a fireplace or a baby, but rarely in adults. When I visited the set, I remember sitting there taped to the monitor, even between takes. I turned to Paul and said, ‘You can’t take your fucking eyes off her.’ He looked at me like, ‘Right?’
“The only other actor who makes me feel this way is Joaquin Phoenix. Watching him is like watching a raccoon rummage through garbage cans. What is he gonna do now? Why look at something else while this is going on? It’s hard to keep that energy on camera, Alana. Take it from an old clown like me. How often would you say that you fell in love? “
As part of the same interview, Haim called her time in the film a “huge growing experience” and considered not working with her sisters Este and Danielle.
“I was really alone making this movie and it was a huge experience that made me grow,” she said. “My two older siblings carried me through life, so it was shocking to say, ‘Oh, they can’t get me out of here.’
“I couldn’t blame them or say, ‘Danielle did it, not me.’ I had to show up on set every day, know what I was doing and assert myself. “
