The Los Angeles Lakers are not getting off to a great start to the 2021-22 season and many fans are wondering if this is any real competition at all. There are several teams in the Western Conference that the Lakers would likely smoke in a playoff series with the Lakers game.
While there is ample time for the team to change things, there is no guarantee that this will happen. This has been a constant problem throughout Russell Westbrook’s career which is why no other team would trade for him and LeBron James is only getting older.
In hindsight, of course, it’s 20/20 and we talked ourselves into the Westbrook store when it happened. But what if we could go back and change the off-season promotions, not just the Westbrook trade, to make the Lakers’ best version possible?
Here is what we would do.
First off, the Los Angeles Lakers are not making a deal with Russell Westbrook
That deal shouldn’t have happened. While there’s still a chance the Lakers will find out how Westbrook works, those chances seem slim and it seems more likely that this will blow the team in the face.
It would be one thing if Westbrook had an expiring contract and could switch teams after this season. You can not. Westbrook has a $ 47 million option for players that he wouldn’t turn down next season as the Lakers have no outs whatsoever.
Next year’s team will be the same as this year’s team, with some of the veterans cycling for new veterans. And if it doesn’t work this year, it definitely won’t work next year.
So what should the Lakers do with these assets and cap space?
