Sugar Palm offers California coastal cuisine in Santa Monica

Viceroy Santa Monica recently underwent a major $ 21 million redesign, including the creation of Sugar Palm, their new outdoor and indoor eatery.

The renovation of the restaurant includes an outdoor terrace, a café, an indoor lounge, a restaurant and a pool area. Chef Jason Francisco, formerly of The Raymond, Eataly and Comme Ca) serves a variety of delicious dishes.

The interior dining area features wooden walls, beige cozy booths, modern rounded chairs, and abstract art by artist Monica Perez. The indoor lounge easily transitions into a huge outdoor dining area with a wraparound bar, terrace, elegant cabanas, and outdoor fireplaces with plenty of seating for dinner or a cocktail.

We started the evening with some innovative cocktail creations from Viceroy Food & Beverage Area Director Mario Leal-Cruz Jr. We loved the botanist’s pretty purple color with Empress 1908 Gin, Rayu Mezcal, Lemon, Aquafaba and Chamomile and the day trip to Oaxaca with Rayu Mexcal , Ancho Reyes, Blood Orange, Lime, Agave and Topo Chico.

Starters include an impressive cheese board made with California cheese, jam, olives, berries, honeycomb, and nuts; a lovely beet burrata dish with crushed pistachios, citrus fruits, and aged balsamic vinegar; Quinoa and grape salad made from heirlooms; charred Spanish octopus with squid sabayon and paprika puree; Tiger prawns with champagne beurre blanc and asparagus and roasted Brussels sprouts with honey Dijon dressing. The Raw Bar offers tuna sashimi, hamachi crudo, Peruvian scallops and oysters.

Desserts include a deconstructed cheesecake which is exceptionally good, a coconut flan, and tiramisu bread pudding.

All of Chef Francisco’s dishes are delicious and the new expansive outdoor space makes Sugar Palm a great place to meet up with friends, celebrate a birthday, anniversary or special event, or just sip cocktails under the stars.

Sugar Palm is located at Viceroy Santa Monica, 1819 Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica. Open daily for brunch from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and for dinner from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Reservations at 310.260.7511.
