East Hollywood – Musicians and costumed chinelos dancers huddled on a sidewalk along Santa Monica Boulevard on Saturday to the 10,000. free food to celebrate the East Hollywood Community Cookout.
The barbecue parties began in August 2020, a few months after the pandemic began, when organizer Heleo Leyva set up a barbecue and began handing out free lunches near that location.
The BBQ night at the Santa Monica Grocery Store on Block 4600 on Santa Monic Boulevard has since started performing in other parts of the city and state.
