They present data on the side effects of teprotumumab. What have you found?
I think this is an extremely important question, especially since it is about patient safety. Now, if you look at the original studies, the most common side effects are headache-related, fatigue, and muscle cramps. And these were easily treated with adequate hydration and rest. On the other side of the spectrum, they also found that patients with diabetes tended to have elevated blood sugar levels after being treated with teprotumumab. Well, once again, careful monitoring circumvents many of the serious consequences of this type, and in my experience, treating these patients well means that glucose levels, even when they skyrocket, can easily be monitored and treated on the spot .
One of the other side effects that seems interesting is hearing impairment. There have been some patients who developed tinnitus after treatment with teprotumab. And it was at this stage that most of the conditions were found to be reversible. There have been a few cases where patients have had long-term hearing impairment, but it remains unclear whether they had hearing impairment prior to treatment. To examine this in more detail, we designed some studies prospectively looking at hearing impairment to try to determine the full incidence and prevalence in patients treated with teprotumumab.
