Sheriff arrests man with gun in abandoned WeHo residence

A gun-toting man was arrested Friday by the COPPS team of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, according to the West Hollywood Station.

The suspect was last seen at 11:15 pm last night in the neighborhoods north of Santa Monica between La Cienega and San Vicente.

The man allegedly used an unlocked rear window to gain access to a vacant property at 718 Westbourne Drive, near the intersection of Sherwood Ave. Deputies responded to a break-in at the property and found a loaded handgun on the suspect when he was arrested, Capt. Bill Moulder said.

West Hollywood West Residents Association members were abuzz about the incident on an email chain. Some wondered why the 24-hour security previously stationed at the derelict locale were no longer there. Another said the suspect didn’t “appear to be that stable — either mental issues or tweaked out on something.”

The house has been vacant for a number of years and has attracted plenty of riffraffs and petty crime.
