Santa Monica runners in the Boston Marathon

SANTA MONICA, CA – A runner from Santa Monica will compete in a Boston marathon like no other.

Santa Monica has a representative for the October 11 race, which is more than 900 days after the last Boston Marathon due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sarah Andrews, 27, is running.

The Boston Marathon will be held for the first time in October after being postponed and finally canceled in 2020 and postponed this year. Race officials said the marathon will return to its traditional Patriots Day date starting next year.

Runners are not required to wear a mask during the race this year, but they must wear it on buses to and from the race. Masks are also required and provided in all medical tents along the 42.2 mile route.

Runners – and everyone else – are required to wear indoor masks as part of the Boston Mask Mandate for indoor use. This includes the Boston Marathon Expo at the Hynes Convention Center in the three days leading up to the race.

Volunteers who are in direct interaction with or in close proximity to the runners must wear masks. Some are provided with additional personal protective equipment.
