Santa Monica Public Library Promotes Literacy with Storypalooza Story Tour

Santa Monica Public Library presents “Storypalooza Story Tour” on Saturday, March 5, 2022, with storytelling performers and activities at all five library locations throughout the day, beginning at 10:30 am and ending at 5:30 pm

Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica, the event celebrates Read Across America, a national reading initiative designed to promote literacy and celebrate diversity in literature for young children and their families. Attendees receive a free book at each location. Space is limited; first come, first served, and all events are free. See the schedule below.

International Folktales with Storyteller Michael D. McCarty

  • 10:30 am / Pico Branch Library, Amphitheater
  • Michael shares folktales that spark the imagination and teaches skills to get everyone telling stories like a pro.

Jump Here Sidewalk Obstacle Course

  • 12:00 pm / Montana Avenue Branch Library, 17th Street Sidewalk
  • You are invited to jump and spin around through the Montana Branch’s sidewalk obstacle course inspired by Hervé Tullet’s book, Press Here.

Catch the wind with reDiscover Center

  • 1:30pm / Ocean Park Branch Library, Front Lawn
  • Use recycled materials to make flyers, pinwheels, and catch the wind with reDiscover Center. Enjoy this hands-on activity inspired by the book The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.

Multicultural Stories with Ina Buckner-Barnette

  • 3:00pm / Main Library, Central Courtyard
  • Storyteller Ina presents interactive tales, songs, and story-making activities to tickle young funny bones and excite the imagination.

The Hug Machine StoryWalk®

  • 4:30pm / Fairview Branch Library, Front Entrance
  • Discover a new way to read a book with StoryWalk®, where the whole family can enjoy a story while walking around the library.
