The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in Ventura and Los Angeles counties was the backdrop for the naturalization ceremony of a group of immigrants to become United States citizens.
There were 40 new Americans from 10 countries who took their Oath of Allegiance in an event sponsored by the National Park Service, one of many held at National Parks throughout the nation.
The new Americans come from Armenia, Brazil, El Salvador, France, Guatemala, Iran, Israel, Mexico, Phillippines, and Russia.
After the ceremony, the new citizens were taken on a hike by park rangers to nearby Inspiration Point.
