‘Santa Monica Is Not Safe’ Banner Hung In Popular Shopping Hub: Report

SANTA MONICA, CA — A banner reading “Santa Monica is not safe” was displayed in a popular shopping hub in Santa Monica by a coalition of residents and business owners this week.

Community group The Santa Monica Coalition put up the sign next to the Adidas store at the 3rd Street Promenade with another underneath that read “Crime… Depravity… Outdoor mental Asylum.”

The group’s goal was to bring attention to the city’s crime issues and homelessness, according to a statement on their website. They called upon the city to take action and create services for the mentally ill.

“Santa Monica is now known as the 6th most dangerous city in the State of California,” the message reads. “Our City has been taken over by the mentally ill and addicted who desperately need help.”

According to a member of the group, the plan is to leave the banner up at the Promenade until the new year before moving it to different locations throughout the city.
