Santa Ana Winds returns to Southland this weekend – CBS Los Angeles

Los Angeles (CBSLA) – Strong Santa Ana winds are expected to return to parts of the Southland on Friday and continue into the weekend.

The National Weather Service issued another series of wind warnings that began at 10 p.m. Thursday and gradually expanded to the LA area overnight.

Recent advisory rounds included:

– the Los Angeles County Mountains, excluding the Santa Monica Range, from 10:00 p.m. Thursday to 2:00 p.m. Saturday. NE winds of 25mph to 40mph, gusting to 55mph, were in the forecast – after a stricter strong wind warning expired on Thursday;

– the Santa Clarita Valley, from 2 a.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday, with winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts up to 45 miles per hour;

– Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area, from 2 a.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday, with winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts up to 50 miles per hour;

– the San Fernando Valley, from 2 a.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday, with winds of 20 mph to 30 mph and gusts to 50 mph;

— and the LA County coast and downtown LA, from 6 a.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday, with winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts to 35 mph. The strongest winds there were expected from Ventura to the Malibu coast.

Wind speeds of between 20 and 40 mph are expected, with gusts of up to 55 mph.

A wind warning has also been issued for inland areas of Orange County and will last through Friday noon.

The NWS said strong winds could blow around unsecured objects and branches could fall and some power outages could result.

Traveling could also be difficult, especially for high-end vehicles.
