Diwali, a festival of lights, will be observed from November 1st to 5th this year in Los Angeles by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and others over a period of five days. It is traditional to light small oil lamps called diyas, which are made of clay or brass. The third day is dedicated to the goddess Lakshmi, who is supposed to visit houses to give blessings and wealth. The Diyas light their way on this most important day of Diwali. Pilgrimage of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego: The images will be sent to various parishes in the tri-county area of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, including the Santa Inez Mission in Solvang, October 30-31.
