Pregnant woman killed in road accident in Long Beach

A 23-year-old Long Beach resident and her unborn child were killed Sunday afternoon after a traffic accident that resulted in a collision with three cars. A man who was later arrested was also injured along with a 10-year-old boy.

Long Beach Police said the woman and boy were passengers in a GMC pickup that sped south on Long Beach Boulevard just before noon.

The driver of the pickup, 26-year-old Miguel Larios of Long Beach, got into a street fight with the driver of a second vehicle before crashing into a third car, a 2004 Toyota Corolla, that pulled off the curb on Long Beach Boulevard south of the Mountain View Street, the police said.

According to police, Larios then lost control of his vehicle and came across an unoccupied pickup truck parked near 52nd Street.

The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported Larios and his passengers to a hospital, where the woman and her unborn child died from their injuries. Larios and the boy are said to have sustained life-threatening injuries. The police did not give the woman’s name.

Larios was arrested and charged on two counts of gross vehicle homicides while intoxicated, one of drinking under the influence and one of child endangerment. His bail was set at $ 200,000.
