Ocean Water Use Warning Extends In Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, CA — Bacteria levels are exceeding state standards at several beaches, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced Wednesday night.

Officials caution residents who are planning to visit the following Los Angeles County beaches to avoid swimming, surfing, and playing in ocean waters:

  • Mother’s Beach at Marina Del Rey
  • Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica
  • Topsail Street Extension in Venice
  • Castlerock Storm Drain at Topanga County Beach
  • Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach

“The warnings have been issued due to bacterial levels exceeding health standards when last tested,” officials said in a statement.

The following warnings are now cleared for these beaches:

  • Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu
  • Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro

Recent samples at Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu and Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro identified that water quality levels are now within state standards, officials said.

Recorded information on beach conditions is available on the county’s beach closure hotline: 1-800-525-5662. Visit the website to see impacted areas: PublicHealth.LACounty.gov/Beach/.
