Montana Avenue Branch Library Reopens In Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, CA — The Montana Avenue Branch Library in Santa Monica reopens this week for the first time after 18 months of curbside services in the pandemic, city officials announced.

The Santa Monica Public Library is excited to welcome patrons back into the branch at 1704 Montana Avenue starting Tuesday.

“Patrons often comment that one of the things they love most about the Montana Avenue Branch is its ‘neighborhood-y’ feel,” Erica Cuyugan, Interim City Librarian, said in a statement. “The affinity patrons feel for the Montana Branch is reflected in the high visitation numbers and number of items that patrons check out.”

During the pandemic, the branch began offering curbside service to support the community as it dealt with the impacts of COVID-19. Now, building on these efforts, and the Fine Free for All program which eliminates fines on overdue books and materials, the Branch is reopening to allow visitors to enjoy the collections and Library space once again.

Library visitors can now look forward to browsing the adult and youth collections, picking up library holds, using computers for up to 30 minutes, no fines on overdue books or materials, checking out materials and interacting with staff.

The Montana Avenue library is open Tuesdays from 10 am to 5 pm and Thursdays from 2 pm to 8 pm

The library has adjusted its space and location to accommodate social distancing and provide safe facilities for patrons and staff.

“If you haven’t visited the library in a while, come back,” library officials said. “If you are new to Santa Monica, join us.”
