MLB commissioner addresses lockout

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — On Thursday MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred spoke for the first time on labor negotiations and the ongoing lockout.

“The status of spring training is no change right now,” Manfred said. “We’re gonna have a conversation with the MLBPA about the calendar. You know, we understand where the calendar is, but until we have that conversation and until we see how this session on Saturday goes, it’s no change.”

Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to spring training next week, but unless a deal between owners and players is struck soon, spring training is expected to be delayed.
