Mira Costa Boys Basketball moves up to first place after defeating Peninsula

The Mira Costa boys basketball team has had a busy schedule but has managed to get back in contention for the No. 1 spot in the upcoming Bay League tournament.

After losing to Redondo on Jan. 18, the Mustangs began a three-game span of five days with a 71-54 win over Culver City (Jan. 21). They followed with a Sunday win (57-42) against Santa Monica.

On Tuesday, the Mustangs (15-5, 3-1) had three straight wins to defeat Peninsula 71-33.

Will Householter led Mira Costa by 20 points. Dylan Black got 18 and Nick Lundy got 15.

Mira Costa ends the regular season on Friday in Palos Verdes. A win would secure the Mustangs first place in the league tournament starting next week.

Peninsula (14-4, 3-1) ends in Culver City (12-6, 3-1). Redondo (12-8, 1-3) closes against Santa Monica (11-8, 1-3).

Redondo Girls improve to 4:0

The Sea Hawks (12-8, 4-0) took a step closer to securing the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Bay League tournament.

Ella Zimmerman had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Redondo. May Williams had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Morgan Edwards finished the tournament with eight points, six rebounds and three assists.

Redondo meets Santa Monica on Friday.

Mira Costa moves up to second place

The Mustangs improved to 16-4 overall and 3-1 in the Bay League with the win.

Maile Nakaji led by 20 points and Winslow Smith by 19 points.

Jami Galdones (14 points) led the Panthers’ offense (12-8, 2-2). Kellie Au and Jadyn Lee both finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. Eliana Hall had eight rebounds.

Mary Star girls return after two-week absence

The stars attended to St. Pius X-St. Matthias with a 70-15 win in a Santa Fe League game on Tuesday. Madison Watts led Mary Star (13-4, 2-0) with 28 points and Drea Lopez had 26 points.
