Massage chair mogul sells Brentwood Fortress

The Brentwood real estate market ended the year on a bang when businessman Matt Wollman sold his fortress-like mansion in Mandeville Canyon for $ 56.55 million.

Wollman made his fortune in the massage chair business by selling his Long Beach-based company Interactive Health for $ 94 million in 2003. Four years later, he bought the Brentwood property for $ 25.3 million, records show.

Security was the property’s selling point. Gates guard the 6.2 acres that extend to the Santa Monica Mountain Preserve for added privacy. There is also an underground level with meeting rooms that boast a towering vault door and state-of-the-art security.

The rest of the facility feels a bit more traditional. A truck stop with a fountain approaches the Mediterranean-style house. Clad with stucco and clay bricks, the L-shaped apartment is lined with balconies and hedges.

Inside there are six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a wood-paneled office, two-story living room, game room, living room, and exercise room. The kitchen and the chef’s family room both open to a dining pergola with an avenue of melaleuca trees.

In total, there are over 20 types of fruit trees spread across the green area, as well as vegetable and herb gardens. The complex also includes a swimming pool and a tennis court amidst meadows and lawns.

At $ 56.55 million, it’s Brentwood’s second-most expensive sale in 2021. The crown is owned by Scooter Braun, who lost $ 65 million on a modern farmhouse in September.

Wollman is now Chairman and CEO of the security consultancy Strategic Services International.

David Kramer and Drew Fenton of Hilton & Hyland kept the listing. Douglas Elliman’s Tracy Tutor represented the buyer.
