A man who was fatally shot in the head at a Willowbrook tube station was identified by district authorities on Wednesday.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified David Koliba, 40, as the man who was killed at Willowbrook / Rosa Parks Station Sunday.
The shooting was reported around 2 p.m. on the C-Line platform at Rosa Parks Metro Station, 11600 block on Willowbrook Avenue, said Deputy Eva Jimenez of the sheriff’s information office.
“Members of the Transit Services Bureau were stopped by a Metro customer who told them that a man had just been shot dead on the metro station’s C-Line platform,” said Jimenez.
Four police officers spotted the suspect waiting on the platform, she said.
“The suspect jumped down to the east-facing train tracks and aimed and fired a pistol at the MPs,” Jimenez said. “The MPs returned fire and beat the suspect.”
The suspect walked behind Koliba and “fired a shot in the back of the head,” said Lt. Derrick Alfred of Homicide reporters at the scene. Koliba was pronounced dead at the scene.
The wounded suspect was rushed to a hospital by paramedics and his condition was unknown, Jimenez said.
No MPs were injured, she said.
