Man accused of setting fire to abandoned dishwasher: police

SANTA MONICA, CA – A 24-year-old man was arrested this week in Santa Monica on suspicion of arson, authorities said.

According to Santa Monica Police, officers responded to an abandoned flush-water fire near the alley side of a building on 400 block on California Avenue at around 9:21 a.m. Tuesday.

A witness identified the alleged arsonist who was near the flames, police said.

The dishwasher had burned scraps of paper and other garbage, the police said.

Joseph Jordon Zarzycki, 24, was arrested on suspicion of arson. He was posted to the Santa Monica Jail and his bail was set at $ 50,000.

Zarzycki was later released with a quote that is part of the Los Angeles County’s emergency bail change initiative.

A court date has not yet been set, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s inmate search.
