Los Angeles MP dragged by a car kills suspect fatally

LOS ANGELES (AP) – A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy shot dead a suspect who dragged him down a lane after a traffic stop, authorities said.

The man, who has not been publicly identified, died at the crime scene on Wednesday in northwest LA County. Authorities secured a pistol near the man, sheriff officials said in a press release.

The MP has been hospitalized for his injuries, the sheriff’s department said.

The MP stopped the car on a street near Interstate 5 in Gorman at around 12:15 p.m., the ministry said.

The deputy let the driver get out of his vehicle and they went to the sheriff’s patrol car when the man ran away, the authorities said.

As the man drove up an embankment, the deputy got into his patrol car, the officers said. The man ran back to his vehicle, and then the deputy began to follow him on foot.

There was an argument at the door of the man’s vehicle, officials said, the suspect drove away and dragged the deputy with him.

The man drove through a chain link fence twice and the deputy opened fire and fatally beat him, the department said.
