LOS ANGELES – A high school football team in Los Angeles will be forced to miss the playoffs this year because not enough players are fully vaccinated, according to a report.
Fox 11 reported that Crenshaw High School’s football season ended on Sunday when the Los Angeles Unified School District vaccination policy went into effect. High school soccer teams must have at least 18 fully vaccinated players for COVID-19 to compete. Crenshaw vaccinated 13 players.

Robert Garrett, the school’s head coach since 1988, told the broadcaster that its staff encouraged players and their parents to get vaccinated.
“But these are individual decisions,” he said. “And I have no control over it.”

The broadcaster spoke to a parent who said it was unfair that these players couldn’t compete for the mandate.
“It should be a free choice whether or not to get vaccinated,” said Lala Brown, the parents. She said there should be a testing option.

LAUSD voted in September to require students 12 and older to be fully vaccinated – with those who participate in sports and other extracurricular activities receiving two vaccinations by the end of October and everyone else by December 19.
Students who cannot provide proof of vaccination will not be allowed to study on site after the winter break on January 11th, unless they have a medical or other exception.

“This action is not about violating anyone’s rights,” said Monica Garcia, member of the school board. “This campaign is about doing our job of providing public schools with children coming to school and being safe.”
