October 25, 1929 – October 25, 2021 (92) Leonard was born in Hollywood in the Bronx, New York City to Doris and Raphael Pomerantz. He attended several elementary schools, Bancroft JHS and Fairfax HS. While visiting Fairfax HS, Leonard met his future wife, Geraldine Fruitman. He later attended Los Angeles Community College with a major in Journalism. Leonard was drafted into the US Army in 1951, served as a combat veteran during the Korean conflict, and during this time began his career as a journalist and front-line reporter for the Stars and Stripes. In 1953 he was honorably fired, married Geraldine, and began his first job at Palmdale Press in Lancaster, California, where he did everything from reporting, travel writing, advertising sales, and even setting up pamphlets. The young couple even lived in a small apartment above the printing presses for the newspaper. In 1956 they started their family with their firstborn son Mark. In 1958 they moved to Granada Hills in the San Fernando Valley and Leonard started working for the San Fernando Sun. In 1959 they moved back to Canoga Park and Leonard began a long career with the Times Mirror Company, where he worked in advertising sales for the Los Angeles Mirror. Daughter Caryn was born in 1961, then Susan in 1962. When the Los Angeles Mirror collapsed, Leonard was hired on the Display Advertising Staff of the Los Angeles Times, where he stayed for more than 35 years and was promoted to National Display Manager. Leonard was quoted as saying that he and Geraldine were two of the ‘happiest people in the world. They had a great career and a great life, were lucky enough to meet some of the best and most interesting people, had a big family and traveled the world. ”Leonard died on Monday October 25th, 2021. His 92nd birthday preceded in the death of his 60-year-old wife Geraldine and is survived by his children Mark and Lynn Pomerantz, Caryn Crossman, Susan Pomerantz, 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren 01/01/2021 on Mt. Sinai in Hollywood Hills at 12 noon.
