August 1, 1952 – January 14, 2022 August 1, 1952 – January 14, 2022 Lawrence “Larry” Cox, a longtime resident of Santa Monica, CA, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2022, surrounded by his loving family after being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2021.
Larry was born in Salt Lake City, UT, moved around the Southwest in his early years due to his parents pastoring in the Assembly of God Church, and lived throughout Southern California. He graduated from Villa Park High School in 1970, where he enjoyed playing trumpet in their various musical groups. Larry attended UC Irvine studying political science, and then graduated from UC Berkeley School of Law. It was during this time he met his wife of 43 years, Barbara Bauer. After dating for three years they decided to get married while dining atop the World Trade Center. They moved to Los Angeles where Larry made partner first at Kadison, Pfaelzer, Woodard, Quinn & Rossi, and then at Quinn, Kully & Morrow, which became the core of the Los Angeles office of Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP. Larry always had a sincere desire to help those in need, be they family, friends, colleagues or strangers. He will be remembered for his fierce devotion to family and career, passion for music and ham radio, sense of humor, love of the outdoors – especially his local beach and the Eastern Sierras – and traveling the world with family and friends.
Larry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara Bauer, children Alexandra Emmons, Jennifer Cox, Michael Cox, sons-in-law Seth Emmons and Scott Reynhout, grandchildren Dylan, Tenaya, Wyatt Emmons, as well as his sister, Kathy Cox -Davies, and mother, Nelda Limeres.
