SANTA MONICA, California – At its meeting tonight, Tuesday, June 29, 2021, Santa Monica City Council appointed Lana Negrete to the council to fill the seat vacated by Kevin McKeown earlier this month. Negrete, a native of Santa Monican and local business owner, was sworn in to her place upon appointment by City Secretary Denise Anderson-Warren. She was selected from 34 suitable candidates who had submitted their interest in the appointment with a term until November 2022.
“It is a special privilege to serve as a councilor for the community I love,” said councilor Lana Negrete. “I’m ready and excited to roll up my sleeves and work with my fellow councilors and city officials as we promote community recovery and a strong future for Santa Monica.”
Lana Negrete was born and raised in Santa Monica and the owner of the Santa Monica Music Center. As a mother, she has been active in the local PTA for a long time and takes care of education and youth development, especially through art. Negrete is among the 70% of Santa Monicans who rent.
As part of her bid for a seat on the city council, Negrete expressed a desire to work towards solutions to tackle homelessness and to work with the full council to “work collectively to create sustainable solutions to the city’s problems, build programs that will continue have to”. expand and respond to the concerns of all residents from all corners of the city. A council that works together to serve the people of the city who depend on them. “
