In 1998 he completed his fellowship in hematology-oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California. Before studying medicine, Dr. Timmerman received his bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry and physiology from the University of California, Berkeley, and his master’s degree from Boston University.

After completing his training, Dr. Timmerman passed the board of internal medicine (ABIM) board exams in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology.
