Dr. Timmerman received his Medicaid degree from the prestigious Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts in 1991. He then completed his internship (1991-1992) and specialist training in internal medicine (1992-1994) at the San Francisco School of Medicine at the University of California in San Francisco, California. In 1998 he completed his fellowship in hematology-oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California. Before studying medicine, Dr. Timmerman received his bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry and physiology from the University of California, Berkeley, and his master’s degree from Boston University.

After completing his training, Dr. Timmerman passed the board of internal medicine (ABIM) board exams in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology. The American Board of Internal Medicine is a 501 nonprofit, self-appointed organization certified for the evaluation of physicians who practice physicians who practice internal medicine and its subdivisions. Hematology is the branch of medicine that studies the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood.
