Is there a fire in Los Angeles? Fire smoke from Northern California is migrating to SoCal, raising questions

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – A layer of smoke rising over the Greater Los Angeles area sparked questions from local residents Thursday, but officials said this was not due to local fires.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said the smoke entering the LA Basin, seen widely throughout Southern California, “came from distant forest fires in Northern and Central California.” The department added that residents should not call 911 to report the smoke.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District reminded residents to be aware of outdoor air quality but did not issue any guidance.

A bushfire broke out near Freeway 215 in San Bernardino on Wednesday, triggering evacuation orders, but firefighters quickly stopped it from spreading.
