The 37th Independent Spirit Awards are underground, and the stars hit the red carpet at the Santa Monica Pier in California to celebrate.
The ceremony itself began at 5 pm ET/2 pm PT and is broadcast on IFC and streamed on AMC Plus.
“Zola” leads films this year with seven nominations. Meanwhile, “Blindspotting,” “It’s a Sin,” “Rutherford Falls,” “Them: Covenant,” “The Underground Railroad” and “We Are Lady Parts” all tied with two television nominations.
“The Spirit Awards have always championed diverse, unique, independent storytelling; shifting earlier in the awards season will allow us to shine an even brighter light on the films and shows we are excited to celebrate,” said Josh Welsh, President of Film Independent.
Comedians Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman are hosting the ceremony.
“We are sincerely excited to be hosting the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards. We hope to get a little rowdy, but it’ll mainly be legitimate cinematic discourse. Although, with the two of us involved, it’s more likely to be intercourse. Either way it’ll be legit,” Mullally and Offerman said.
The show is executive produced and directed by Joel Gallen of Tenth Planet Production. Shawn Davis is executive producing for Film Independent, with Rick Austin as co-executive producer. Danielle Federico and Andrew Schaff are also on as producers.
