I have too many feelings. A new show. A selection from the Binge Free Festival, written and performed by Bethany Vee and directed and developed by Jessica Lynn Johnson, will play at the Santa Monica Playhouse starting Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021 at 7:30 p.m.
This show is performed in front of a live audience at the Santa Monica Playhouse. The Covid security protocols applicable on the day of the performance are observed. A streaming option is available upon request.
Bethany Vee is committed to a career as a professional comedian. Getting to where she wants to be, however, has not been without its challenges. As the show’s title suggests, she experiences a whole range of emotions, sometimes too many at once. Most notably, there is Shame and Guilt, associated with growing up a lesbian in a home with a divorced mother who is homophobic (who later evolves). There is young romance that comes with its very own fear. And there is romance for adults that is even harder to navigate. Some of Bethany’s coping mechanisms involve ingesting legal and illegal substances, which creates other problems.
Bethany is accompanied on her life path by two special companions: Debbie, her inner voice, who is the demon of self-criticism; and Edgar, Debbie’s opposite, the inner voice of rationality and calm. Of course they collide. One fine day, Bethany thinks she has found a soul mate. Will their love be returned?
Bethany Vee has a decade of experience as a comedian, stand-up, improvisation, and sketch. Despite all the tests and challenges she goes through in her multimedia multi-character performance piece I Have Too Many Feelings, there is also a lot of humor in the show. Bethany is a comedian and most of all she wants you to laugh.
Bethany Vee lived her early life in Pittsburgh and then graduated from Slipry Rock University. She trained in comedy with Upright Citizens Brigade and The Groundlings, then earned credits on stage (Dark North at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Lady Farts at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, more), independent films and on television (TMI Hollywood).
