4th quarter

BYU 35, USC 31

The Cougars’ tenth win of the season was perhaps the most competitive when BYU defeated USC at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Jackson McChesney’s 7-yard touchdown run turned out to be the game winner as the Cougars improved to 5-0 against Pac-12 teams that season.

The defense made the big stop, however, forcing a turnover on downs deep in YU territory less than a minute before the end.

Now No. 13 BYU looking to find out his fate after the season.

0:38 – BYU came up with a fourth downstop on the Cougar 10, and visitors will deserve the hard-won victory. USC had done well in goal position, but Kaleb Hayes attacked Gary Bryant Jr. a yard behind a first down.

3:57 – BYU gave the go-ahead for the touchdown thanks to the efforts of two underused players. Jackson McChesney, who had 11 carries the year before Saturday, scored a four-point lead at 35-31 with just under four minutes left on a 7-yard run.

McChesney came to the relief of a battered Tyler Allgeier who used to fumble on the Drive, but the tight end Dallin Holker picked up the fumble and won another 22 yards in the game to take BYU deep into USC territory.

11:03 – USC is back in front, going 91 yards in 12 games to give Gary Bryant Jr a three-point lead in a 10-yard touchdown catch.

That’s 18 points in a row for the Trojans after BYU opened the second half with a touchdown.

Dart made 5 of 5 passes for 69 yards on the drive.

3rd quarter

BYU 28, USC 23

The Cougars hold onto the lead but USC is picking up speed after the last 10 points of the game. BYU was betting on successive possession of the ball at the end of the third quarter – even after hitting USC 27 with a ball – and now the Trojans have regained the lead.

3:45 – The Trojans cut into the BYU leadership again, this time on Parker Lewis’ third field goal of the night, a 37-yarder. After USC forced a cougar punt, Vavae Malepeai tore down a 35 yard run to get USC into the gate.

7:12 – USC reacted well to a BYU touchdown again, this time marching 75 yards in 14 plays to score a goal on a 2 yard run with a fourth and goal from Vavae Malepeai to make it into a game to do with a score.

The Trojans turned fourth down twice in BYU 5 on the drive while Darwin Barlow took up 40 yards on the ball.

11:37 – BYU marched down to score another touchdown in the first drive of the second half, although it initially looked like Jaren Hall had thrown another interception. However, USC was called in to shout at the passerby in the game, and BYU retained possession.

The Cougars increased their lead to 15 when Hall launched a 41-yard pass for the touchdown at Keanu Hill and crowned a 75-yard drive with six games.

2nd quarter

BYU 21, USC 13

A costly mistake prevented BYU from taking a more solid lead at halftime, despite the Cougars overtaking Trojan’s hometown of 279 yards on 178 yards overall offensive in the first half.

Intercepting Jaren Hall just before half-time, only the fourth one he threw all season, turned into points at the other end. BYU, on the other hand, has not yet forced sales in this game.

0:00 – USC made BYU pay for late first-half turnover when the Trojans’ Parker Lewis scored a 33-yard field goal when the first half was up.

The Cougars seemed poised to extend their 21-10 lead before a faulty pass from Jaren Hall was intercepted just over a minute before halftime, and USC responded by going 54 yards to get within field goal range .

5:45 – The Cougars responded well to the Trojans’ first touchdown by scoring one of their own, this time a 5-yard touchdown run by Tyler Allgeier in the middle. It is Allgeier’s second touchdown of the quarter.

BYU marched 83 yards down the field in six games, triggered by a 36-yard pass to Masen Wake. There was a scary moment for the Cougars, however, when the tight end Isaac Rex was carted off the field after twisting his ankle trying to catch a catch in the end zone.

8:06 – Former Utah Prep quarterback standout Jaxson Dart led the Trojans on a touchdown drive to make it a four-point game, and freshman Dart topped the drive with a 6-yard touchdown Run. The Trojans moved the ball 72 yards in nine games for their first touchdown of the evening.

11:34 – The Cougars are 14-3 ahead, thanks to a 9-yard touchdown run by Tyler Allgeier to fourth and first. BYU originally scored a field goal on the drive, but USC was sidelined on the kick, and the cougars decided to go on after the punishment.

Allgeier then broke the middle untouched for the score on a 93-yard scoring drive that included another fourth downconversion for BYU.

1st quarter

BYU 7, USC 3

The Cougars have 136 yards total attack on just 49 for USC by a quarter. If BYU can start converting some of this dynamic on the offensive into sustainable drives, the Cougars could take advantage of their previous dominance in moving the ball. For now, they have to be content with keeping a thin lead.

7:24 – BYU’s first possession of the game found the end zone when Puka Nacua caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Jaren Hall to give the Cougars the lead. BYU drove 75 yards in eight games to score a goal and turned a fourth and one to keep the drive alive.

11:20 am – USC took the opening drive for a score after Gary Bryant Jr. of the Trojans returned the opening kickoff 62 yards into BYU territory. USC marched 25 yards before the ride ended with a 26-yard field goal from Parker Lewis.
