Joseph SanClemente, a former Santa Monica City Transportation planner, took up his new position as Hermosa Beach City Public Works Director on Tuesday. SanClemente will oversee the city’s 26 staff members and will receive an annual salary of $ 167,028 plus benefits.
San Clemente replaces former public works director Marnell Gibson, who suddenly retired earlier this year.
SanClemente spent three years overseeing more than 20 transportation and security projects in Santa Monica on a budget of $ 32 million.
“SanClemente is a great addition to our city’s team,” said City Manager Suja Lowenthal. “His knowledge and perspective will further strengthen our public works department and benefit our community as a whole.”
Lowenthal said, SanClemente “will be responsible for reviewing, maintaining and optimizing the schedule and projects of the city’s capital improvement plan, including improvements to urban infrastructure and internal systems. He will also provide personal support to the five-member public works commission. “
SanClemente received his BS and MS in civil engineering from Northeastern University in Boston. He is a trained civil engineer and certified planner. He and his family live in South Bay. IS
