Halloweekend returns with a haunted selection of local events

With the majority of Halloween activities last year marred by a spike in COVID in the fall, residents are busy and thankfully the city is home to a multitude of spooky events.

Friday October 29th

Yappy Hour at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows

The Fairmont Miramar has a happy hour for residents and their pups in the Miramar garden area from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event will feature cocktails from Nosotros Tequila, treats from the Healthy Spot and a doggy costume contest where the winner will receive an overnight stay at the Fairmont Miramar. Absolutely Halloween! Musical at the Santa Monica Playhouse

Now an SMP Halloween Theatrical Tradition, Absolutely Halloween! is the heartwarming musical story of the aptly named “Candy”, a cute young girl who learns surprising lessons about life, love, laughter and sugar from an adorable array of colorful costume characters that bring her magical All Hallows’ to life Eve adventures to save Halloween for another year. Climate Halloween Youth Protest

The LA Youth Climate Movement is organizing a Climate Halloween Parade to call for an immediate stop to fossil fuel expansion. Participants will gather at 3:00 p.m. in Tongva Park and at 3:30 p.m. they will begin their march through downtown and the boardwalk and end at Chase Bank on 4th Street for a rally of speeches and performances. The march is intended to protest JPMorgan Chase’s and other banks’ ongoing investments in fossil fuels. Participants are encouraged to dress up as locally endangered species such as honey bees, brown pelicans, California condors, vaquita dolphins, bighorn sheep, and more.

Coco movie night at Brentwood Country Mart

The Brentwood Country Mart is hosting a free demonstration of Coco at the South Courtyard at 6:00 PM. Sweet Rose Creamery and Edelweiss Chocolates offer take-away and take-away snacks. 225 26th St.

The Rooftop Cinema Club shows a number of Halloween films for drive-in or drive-up viewing – parking is available next to tables and chairs. Day of the Dead on the Pier (30, 31 & 1)

Together with the Pico Youth & Family Center, this opening ceremony of the Dia de los Muertos will feature an artistic altar dedicated to the lives of friends and family who have played an important role in the Santa Monica Pier community, the traditional ballet folklorico, an art installation called “Letters of Life” and an unmistakable Aztec dance performance. The event will take place on October 30th and 31st from 11am to 7pm and on November 1st until 6pm in the Pier Carousel building.

PAL’s “Outdoor Spooktacular” Trunk or Trick Event

At this year’s Spooktacular, families are invited to a trick or treating while they safely distance themselves and admire the festive Halloween decorations. The Santa Monica Police Force patrol cars will be dressed in seasonal and Halloween-themed decorations. Everyone is invited to this free community event. 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Memorial Park Parking Lot, 1401 Olympic Blvd.

Esters Wine Shop & Bar Halloween Wine Tasting

Esters Wine Shop & Bar is open on Halloween from 3pm to 9pm. Their weekly Sunday tasting is orange wine themed for $ 25 / person. Residents can stop by anytime from 3pm to 9pm to enjoy four, funky wines and a mini cheese pairing. Costumed guests receive a free “Spooky Cocktail” when they buy their food.
