Wildfire broke out on Interstate 5 near Castaic Friday afternoon, forcing some lanes to close before rush hour traffic.
The emigrant fire was reported near Pyramid Lake shortly after 1:30 p.m. and was caused by a tractor-trailer truck on the north side that caught fire and spread to the surrounding bushes, according to Andrew Mitchell, spokesman for the Angeles National Forest.
Two lanes north south of Vista Del Lago Road have been closed. The offramps on Vista Del Lago Road were also closed to motorists, according to the California Department of Transportation.
In less than two hours, the fire had burned more than 180 acres and was rapidly spreading north, Mitchell said.
“It moves pretty well,” he added. More than 100 firefighters from the Angeles National Forest had responded, and an unspecified number of firefighters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department joined them, Mitchell said.
The fire is named after Emigrant Landing, a boat dock on Pyramid Lake.
