City of Santa Monica,
For the past two weeks our nation has been cautiously watching the results of the Rittenhouse and Arbery trials. Both cases have affected communities across the country. As we begin to prepare for our holiday season and ponder our blessings, I want Santa Monica and the visiting churches to know that we are grateful for your trust in us.
Our annual vacation staff schedule will be ready for use in the next few weeks. You can expect to see more officials in the shopping districts, the downtown promenade including our main corridors from Main Street to Montana Avenue.
The police expanded model launched this week in response to opportunistic criminal acts by the “flash mob” in cities across the country, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento and Chicago. We work with our security partners at Santa Monica Place and DTSM to ensure that we are all doing our part to keep our commerce open to business, yet secure.
However, we cannot be everywhere. We ask that you, our Santa Monica community, remain vigilant. When you see something, say something.
We remain vigilant and are committed to protecting our city during the Christmas season and into the New Year. This includes ongoing communication and collaboration with our local, state, and federal law enforcement colleagues.
From all of the men and women in the Santa Monica Police Department and the City of Santa Monica who work diligently to protect our community, a sincere “thank you” for your support.
Happy Thanksgiving
