City of Santa Monica: Calling All Trades: Jobs for a Green Economy Workshop Series

Presented to the City of Santa Monica Economic Recovery Task Force Calling All Trades: Jobs for a Green Economy, an 8-part speaker series. Experienced educators and craft professionals will provide information about the challenges, successes and current insider perspectives on all aspects of the craft and the participants will learn how to pursue jobs in the growing green economy.

This online series is designed to inform, prepare and encourage people who may be interested in careers in the electrical, plumbing, electric vehicle infrastructure and renewable energy sectors. The speakers will discuss how important it is to recognize opportunities in the skilled trades and how to meet the requirements for training, the job search and the soft skills that you need to climb the career ladder. The speakers provide valuable information about their own professional backgrounds and what they have learned about themselves as they pursue their career goals.

The series is co-hosted by Michael Jackson and Drew Johnstone with the City of Santa Monica. Michael Jackson is the Community Services Program Coordinator for the Santa Monica City Department of Housing and Human Services. Michael is responsible for coordinating the city’s internship program. Drew Johnstone is a Senior Sustainability Analyst in the Santa Monica City Office of Sustainability and the Environment and leads the city’s green building policies and programs.
