Bernardo Vasconcelos has spent over a decade creating and carefully crafting a globally recognized hairstyling brand. His looks have graced the covers of international magazines and commercials, on everyone from supermodels to actors, and of course, the Instagram famous.
Though Vasconcelos’ headquarters BCO salon is situated in London, he often travels across the globe to share his artistic vision and product line with clients. Celebrities that include Brazilian models Gisele, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Izabel Goular all seek this master colorist when looking for the show-stopping, glowing complexities of natural highlights and effortless beach waves. Adriane Galisteu, Brenda Costa and Daphne Joy are a few other notable individuals who are also clients. His specialty? His exclusive Brazilian style technique known as Contour Signature Balayage.
Vasconcelos’ prides himself on creating the perfect combination of brunette and blonde strands for an overall set of highlights that fit the clients’ needs and lifestyle. Sun-kissed locks, loose waves, caramel hues all take a great deal of attention to master as a stylist, which is why he’s known for his individual attention to creating unique styles for clients.
BCO salon is now a franchise, with a new branch in Knightsbridge, London opening doors in the near future. Other soon-to-be opened salons include one in Kuwait and another in Dubai later this year. He’s also in the stages of mass producing new hair care products, including a hydration shampoo and deep reconstruction mask, that are due to be out for Christmas 2022.
As he opens new salons and preps for his new haircare line launching in the United States, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he’s been spending a lot of time in one of the country’s most celebrity-studded and appearance-driven destinations, Los Angeles. After all, you never know when you need to be camera-ready!
Here are three of his favorite restaurants in the city when meeting with clients.
Located in Downtown LA’s Arts District is Caboco, a Brazilian restaurant by chefs and business partners Rodrigo Oliveira and Victor Vasconcellos. With its lively ambiance, vibrant design and communal dining tables, it’s an exciting and social Los Angeles spot made to appreciate innovative Brazilian cuisine. The menu is diverse, featuring Modern Brazilian cuisine that surpasses just churrascaria.
Popular starters include the Cuscuz Paulista with corn polenta, quail eggs and Santa Barbara sea urchin; Casquinha de siri with crab meat; and the steak tartare Angus with black tucupi mayo and cured yolks. Exceptional main courses include the Joelho de Porco, a braised pork shank with roasted pumpkins, corn couscous; Moqueca de caju, a vegetable stew in a coconut broth; and the Peixe grelhado, black cod cooked in banana leaves.
Right in the heart of Los Angeles is Angler, a seafood-centric restaurant Chef Joshua Skenes and Saison Hospitality. The interiors are moody and rustic, evoking a rich maritime ambiance. The menu is seasonal, and inspired by the ingredients themselves and how best to serve them. After all, Angler works with a small group of purveyors and fishermen to ensure the quality of their cuisine.
The menu is straight forward, with a selection of caviar and a raw bar section featuring dishes like bluefin tuna with tomato jelly, the beef tartare with yuzu and oysters. Angler has a live tank of lobster and crab, along with a selection of entries that range from a striped bass with chili crisp and ora king salmon with celery root, chestnut and truffle to meat mains like the 28 day dry aged prime NY strip.
Situated in the lobby floor of the Downtown Proper Hotel is Caldo Verde, a colorful, chic dining room that offers a diverse menu of Portuguese-meets-California dishes. James Beard award-winning team of Chef Suzanne Goin and restaurateur Caroline Styne marry the best of Portuguese flavors with the freshness of seasonal California cuisine with dishes that like the Portuguese chopped salad with broad beans, potato, and chorizo and the yellow tomato campechana with shrimp , crab, avocado, and local halibut.
Heartier dishes include the duck breast with pea tendrils and casa forcella crab apple mostarda; and the beef cheeks with avocado, green chile, crema, radish. And of course, you can’t miss their signature dish, caldo verde with local rock crab, grilled linguiça, kale, mussels, and potato.
