The 27th annual New Heroes Celebration, sponsored by the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 5 p.m. in a virtual program. This event is an opportunity for the business community and city to welcome the best of Santa Monica’s educators, firefighters, and law enforcement officers.
Each year, Santa Monica Inspirational Heroes are honored for their outstanding contributions and important community work. In the second year, the Chamber has given special recognition to Healthcare Heroes for valiantly serving the community, saving and protecting lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Program will honor health care heroes from UCLA Health, Kaiser and Providence; Lizzy Moore / Santa Monica College will be honored as an Educational Hero; and this year’s Young Inspirational Hero will be Isabella Carbonari of New Roads School, the Santa Monica Firefighter Honor is Captain Mike Fitzgerald, and the Santa Monica Police Honor Award is Officer Jayme Jacinto. Healthcare Honorary Winners include the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center’s security and valet team and the Saint John’s Health Center emergency team.
“Welcoming our outstanding educators, police officers, and firefighters, and honoring our health heroes this year is something no other community is doing,” said Laurel Rosen, president of the Santa Monica Chamber. “This event is an opportunity for our community to say thank you. These are our unsung heroes, and they deserve this recognition. ”
The program opens with a welcome address from Santa Monica Mayor Sue Himmelrich. Senator Ben Allen, City Manager David White and Police Chief Ramon Batista will offer words of encouragement to the award winners and guests at this challenging time.
“We are deeply moved by the extraordinary contributions from these people, and I join the Santa Monica Chamber in celebrating their service,” said Senator Ben Allen. “It has been a challenging year for the city of Santa Monica and these important organizations have looked after us in our time of great need.”
