Cancer patient at UPMC Children’s gets Super Bowl tickets from TJ Watt

A cancer patient who was finishing up a day of chemotherapy at UPMC Children’s Hospital received a huge surprise on Monday when he was told he would be going to the Super Bowl. Watch the full story in the video player above. Corey Fischer was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma in November. It has a nine-month treatment protocol that starts with six rounds of chemotherapy. He had just finished his fifth round when he got the surprise special guest.”Who is it? Oh, it’s TJ Watt,” Fischer said. When Watt asked Fischer how he was doing via video call, he said “I’m alright. Another day at the office I guess. Except, it wasn’t just another day at the office. “We weren’t able to go to the Super Bowl. But you are, my friend,” Watt said to Fischer. Watt told him that he was selected by the Steelers organization and UPMC Children’s Hospital to get an all-expense paid trip for two to the big game. “I’m glad you asked for an interview cause whenever my initial reaction happened on the video I was like, ‘I should have had a better reaction’ but I was just in complete shock. Because it’s not very often that you get to go to a Super Bowl. Let alone in LA too, which makes it a little more exciting,” Fischer said. Fischer said he plans to take his dad to LA, a city neither of them have been to before.” So, we might hit Rodeo Drive. I want to go to Santa Monica Pier. I also love tacos and the taco stands out there I heard are good,” Fischer said. The timing is good, too. Fischer will start that sixth round of chemo the day after he gets back. The big game will give him some much- needed encouragement to push through.”It’s a blessing and I appreciate it for sure. The Pittsburgh Steelers organization and Children’s Hospital is one of the most amazing places on Earth,” Fischer said. Corey also said he wants to include all of Pittsburgh in his trip. He’s going to be posting pictures and videos on his social media accounts to document the once-in-a-lifetime experience.
